The spa area on board is a simple but elegant space to relax in.  Unlike most other lines use of the spa is included within the cruise fare.  The only extras are if you want to have a specific treatment.

At the centre of the spa you’ll find a number of heated beds, a thalassotherapy pool, saunas, plunge pools, a steam room, the unique snow grotto (and yes it actually snows!) and a cold bucket shower.  Embrace the Nordic Bathing experience by alternating between the warmth and cold, together with a good dose of stillness and mindfulness.  It is genuinely relaxing, refreshing and great for the body.

Prices for treatments are comparable to other lines.  I opted to have a massage on board and it was very good.  What’s more, there was no upselling after the treatment, a personal hate of mine with some lines.  A full range of therapies are available on board, as well as services from the salon including manicures, face and beauty therapies.

Gym & fitness

The gym is situated next to the spa.  It has everything you’d want to keep fit including state-of-the-art equipment.  It was never busy when I was on board, with usually a couple of people using the equipment.

If you head up to the top of the ship, you’ll also find a neat outdoor gym which was never in use.  If I had discovered it sooner I’d have loved to go up there each morning.

Sun Deck

In a previous blog I spoke about Viking’s sun deck and pool being one of the best at sea (see here).  It really doesn’t disappoint.  Like the rest of the ship, this is a well-conceived space, with plenty of sun loungers surrounding a relativity large pool.  The main pool also benefits from a glass retractable roof, so you can sit out whatever the weather.

And then there is the infinity pool.  This sits at the back of the ship on the aquavit terrace.  Perched over the edge of the ship, this is the only true infinity pool at sea.  Feeling like an exclusive area, there are only a few sun loungers available, but I never found it difficult to find one.  There is plenty of other seating for just perching or take a dip in the hot tub that sits behind the pool. This is perhaps my favourite place on the ship, and you can see why!
