Following in the footsteps of the Vikings, I recently had the chance to venture into the midnight sun on board the beautiful Viking Sea. Norway has always been on my wish list, with its unique natural beauty and culture.  So, I knew I would enjoy this trip, but in reality, I was even more blown away by the sheer beauty of the landscapes we encountered than I could ever have imagined. And the whole thing was complemented perfectly by Viking’s renowned design and service.

One of the biggest attractions of cruising is the ability to wake-up, open the curtains and be somewhere totally new each day.  But Viking takes this a step further immersing you fully in each of the destinations you visit.  Enrichment is at the centre of a Viking cruise, from guest lecturers educating guests on a variety of relevant subjects, to immersive excursions that give you a unique cultural experience.  Viking voyages’ tend to spend longer in port, including overnight stays, so you can do more than just dip into a destination.  This is music to my ears, as often I’m left wanting to see and do more in ports I visit.  This is also a match made in heaven for an itinerary like Into the Midnight Sun, where there is so much to see and learn about the destinations.  The whole trip also felt like a homecoming, with Viking showcasing and embracing its heritage.

Viking Sea

As I’ve spoken about on my blog before, Viking Sea is a stunning ship, that, along with all of Viking’s ocean ships, has been purposely designed to explore Norway with this itinerary.  Being smaller they are able to navigate easily, dock and anchor seamlessly in the ports, and bring you up close to the natural beauty of the UK and Norway, as well as navigate through the many bridges across Norway.  The design of the ship, with its acres of glass and comfortable venues, are perfect for watching the world go by.  You can even enjoy dinner al fresco from the Aquavit Terrace while watching the scenery of the majestic fjords tower above you.  Viking also includes an excursion in every port, which is the perfect way to learn and immerse yourself in all aspects of the adventure.  Make sure you take a look at my Viking Adventure on board Viking Sea in the Caribbean here.

The itinerary

This itinerary starts in London and takes us up to Scotland, before heading towards the very top of Norway and then back down finishing in the gateway to the Fjords, Bergen.  It honestly has something for everyone.  Click the images below to start your journey with me into the Midnight Sun. Part 2 and 3 coming soon.

Experiencing Norway with Viking as your host is the perfect match – viewing dramatic and beautiful landscapes from a scandi-inspired interior with bags of hygge.  I fell in love with Norway and even wild Shetland ponies won’t be able to stop me from booking my next cruise to see even more.  I was a guest of Viking Cruises on this journey.
